Walnut is a hardwood and has a medium strength. Colors range from a rich deep red to a dark golden brown. The wood is straight to wavy. The grain is usually interlocked so it makes a striped or roe pattern. It has a very low stiffness and is resistant to shock loads. It can be either stained or polished to an excellent finish. It takes acrylic, latex, and enamel paint very well.
Mahogany is a straight-grained, reddish brown hardwood prized for it's beauty, durability, and color. The strips take paint or varnish well. |
