31214 - Brass Chain - 13 lpi

Chain replaced rope anchor cable in the early 19th century. Soon it was used aboard warships and large merchantmen in place of certain types of standing lines, such as guys, pendants and bobstays. By mid-century, it was also used on most sail vessels for topsail sheets.
