Developed in 1827, the screw propeller is a mechanical device for propelling a boat through water. Consisting of a revolving shaft with two or more broad, angled blades attached to it, the propeller transmits power by converting rotational motion into thrust. A pressure difference is produced between the forward and rear surfaces of the blade.
